On 15th of December 2017, An UHC forum official side event, Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs): Driving progress towards UHC will be held by Nagasaki University co-hosted by Uniting to Combat NTDs, St. Luke’s International University and DNDi Japan at Tokyo Prince Hotel, Tokyo Japan.
The Universal Health Coverage (UHC) forum aims to galvanize the health sector, countries, development partners, civil society, and the private sector towards the common goal of UHC. It is jointly organised with the Government of Japan, the World Bank, the World Health Organization, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and UHC2030.
This official side event focuses on UHC and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) spreading among poverty in developing countries, because NTD control drives progress towards UHC among the poorest of the poor, and will launch the 5th report on progress against the 2012 London Declaration on NTDs as well as the Japanese Network on NTDs to unite with global NTD control activities.
First panel from 10:00-11:05 will focus on the 5th report, and include a keynote from Dr. Tedros and the official launch of the report by Mr. Naito, CEO of Eisia, one of the major drug companies in Japan who donate drugs to the NTD program. The second panel from 11:05-11:55 will focus on Japan’s role in NTDs, and will acknowledge the contributions today of Japan to the fight against these awful diseases and discuss towards the formation of a new NTD advocacy coalition to strengthen Japan’s role in NTDs.
